National Pumpkin Day!

One of the best things about Autumn is celebrated around the world tomorrow  - Pumpkins! Whether you love to eat, carve or decorate yours, there's so many ways to enjoy them.

As well as being part of a recipe for several different foods such as soup and pie, pumpkins can be used in ways you might ever have imagined!

Why not try a a Pumpkin face mask? Whisk together 150g of Pumpkin and one egg, then add a splash of honey, mix all together and its ready to slather on. Leave for 15 minutes then rinse. The results will be a refreshed and healthy complexion!

Pumpkins can come in handy too - they can be used as an alternative flower pot! Lovely for autumnal flowers and they make a great decoration during Halloween.

Have you discovered any unusual ways to use a pumpkin?

Flashback Friday - Pumpkin Carving evening!

With all the excitement of Halloween approaching, we've been looking back at last year's activities which included a Pumpkin carving evening at Ellie Ellie's haunted HQ!

We began the evening by getting into the spirit with some yummy pumpkin soup, then rolled up our sleeves, got into teams and stuck in to the carving...

...after lots of hard work and concentration, these were the results - we think they're rather impressive! Which one is your favourite?

If you've already been pumpkin carving or have one from past years that you're proud of, we'd love to see them!

Simple Halloween party treats!

If you're hosting a Halloween party this year, you might be looking for some ideas for fun and interesting snacks for your guests. Not only do they get everyone in the spirit, they make a great addition to the theme and decorations!

Here are some of OUR favourite, easy to make spooky nibbles!

Banana ghosts and clementine pumpkins: With all the trick-or-treat sweets around, it's good to have a healthy option. They will only take a few minutes to put together. Simply chop up some bananas and add chocolate buttons and drops to give them ghostly faces! With clementines, just peel and squeeze a small stick of celery into the top!

Doughnut spiders:  Grab a few mini doughnuts from your local supermarket, and carefully use a knife to cut the curves off of a few pretzels, then just stick them into the doughnut as legs and add a couple of orange Chocolate Smart Beans for eyes!

Freaky Marshmallows: All you will need for these is some marshmallows, skewers, and a food decoration pen (whichever colour you like, but we think black or red will work best!). You can creative as you like - draw ghostly faces, mummies or zombies!

EE wears - Autumnal Seventies Style!

You might have already noticed some of the trends that are popping up this season, but one in particular strikes us. A nostalgic nod to the seventies is all the rage, and our Ellie Ellie wears this month is getting on board with the fun and quirky boho revival!

A mix of geo and floral print on this dress from Monsoon sets the mood perfectly for this look, and the right jewellery will look great against it, including our lovely Farthing Coin necklace!

In the Autumn chill, a floppy hat is the ideal accessory. Put on a pair of Wills ethically made brogue shoe boots for a stylish finishing touch to this folklore-inspired outfit!

Slindon Pumpkin Festival

There's only two weeks till Halloween, and a popular family tradition around this time of year is going out to find the biggest and best pumpkins to pick!

This year, look no further than Slindon in West Sussex - known as Britain's pumpkin capital!  At their annual festival we're sure you'll be impressed with what they have to offer...

The village is well know for its autumnal displays, and adopts a different theme each year to create fun and interesting collages using over 50 different types of pumpkin available to purchase! The late Ralph Upton grew pumpkins and squashes here for over 40 years and his son has since taken over, keeping the impressive pumpkins growing as strong as ever!

It makes for a great family trip - the kids will be spoilt for choice with all the different shapes and colours! Halloween may just be once a year, but in the tiny village of Slindon this wonderful variety of pumpkins is celebrated at a huge scale, and now is the time to go! Find out more here.

Where do you go to pick your pumpkins?

Make your own simmering Potpourri!

As we approach Autumn and the weather gets chillier, it's nice to feel warm and cosy! We've found a great activity to get in the mood for the season.

Firstly, think about some of your favorite scents during autumn, whether it be fresh apples, oranges or cinnamon. With these, you can easily make your very own delightful simmering Potpourri!

Here's a sample recipe to make a lovely blend of fragrances:

- the peel of one orange
- one thinly sliced apple

- 2 large cinnamon sticks

- 1 tablespoon of cloves

- 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract

- 1 tablespoon of almond extract
- 1.5 cups of water plus plenty more for refill

Simply mix together your chosen ingredients to a saucepan with some water and simmer throughout the day, spreading a lovely seasonal scent through your home. You can reuse the mix for three days, storing it in the fridge in the meantime!

You can also make a dried Potpourri to display all the colours and textures of the ingredients. Mix together some dried fruit, cinnamon sticks and pine cones (maybe go on a family nature walk with the kids to pick the best ones!) and add a splash of essential oils. It's then ready to sit in a bowl or jar as a decoration and for you to enjoy the heavenly smells!

Have you made your own Potpourri? We'd love to hear your recipes!

10 reasons why we love Autumn!

It's one of our favourite seasons, so we've been super excited about everything that Autumn brings! From log fires to feeling the first hints of Christmas, here's our top 10 reasons why we love this time of year:

The colours - Filled with reds, oranges and greens, Autumn colours make spectacular views and beautiful scenery!

Crunchy leaves - we still love stepping or running through a big pile of them!

Big cosy jumpers and scarves - the lovely feeling of wrapping up warm when the weather has become much chillier, and it's great excuse for a shopping trip -  you can never have too much knitwear!

Halloween - the spookiest part about October, but the most fun too! Finding a scary outfit, trick or treating with the kids and pumpkin carving!

Roaring fires - the best way to keep your home nice and toasty on cold evenings.

Chai lattes - a delicious and comforting hot drink goes a long way in chilly weather!

Blankets - when you're on the sofa and just a need an extra layer, a big wool blanket will always do the trick!

Home cooked meals - Stews, casseroles and soups, the possibilities are endless when it comes to delicious home cooking.

Orla Kiely's new shoe collection - Autumn is a great time for fashion too, with stunning new Autumn/Winter collections hitting the shops - we're loving seventies nostalgia this season!

Christmas - last but certainly not least, Christmas is only a couple of months away! We can start sipping on mulled ciders and begin basking in all the festive glory.

What are your favorite things about Autumn?
