EE wears - Autumnal Seventies Style!

You might have already noticed some of the trends that are popping up this season, but one in particular strikes us. A nostalgic nod to the seventies is all the rage, and our Ellie Ellie wears this month is getting on board with the fun and quirky boho revival!

A mix of geo and floral print on this dress from Monsoon sets the mood perfectly for this look, and the right jewellery will look great against it, including our lovely Farthing Coin necklace!

In the Autumn chill, a floppy hat is the ideal accessory. Put on a pair of Wills ethically made brogue shoe boots for a stylish finishing touch to this folklore-inspired outfit!

10 reasons why we love Autumn!

It's one of our favourite seasons, so we've been super excited about everything that Autumn brings! From log fires to feeling the first hints of Christmas, here's our top 10 reasons why we love this time of year:

The colours - Filled with reds, oranges and greens, Autumn colours make spectacular views and beautiful scenery!

Crunchy leaves - we still love stepping or running through a big pile of them!

Big cosy jumpers and scarves - the lovely feeling of wrapping up warm when the weather has become much chillier, and it's great excuse for a shopping trip -  you can never have too much knitwear!

Halloween - the spookiest part about October, but the most fun too! Finding a scary outfit, trick or treating with the kids and pumpkin carving!

Roaring fires - the best way to keep your home nice and toasty on cold evenings.

Chai lattes - a delicious and comforting hot drink goes a long way in chilly weather!

Blankets - when you're on the sofa and just a need an extra layer, a big wool blanket will always do the trick!

Home cooked meals - Stews, casseroles and soups, the possibilities are endless when it comes to delicious home cooking.

Orla Kiely's new shoe collection - Autumn is a great time for fashion too, with stunning new Autumn/Winter collections hitting the shops - we're loving seventies nostalgia this season!

Christmas - last but certainly not least, Christmas is only a couple of months away! We can start sipping on mulled ciders and begin basking in all the festive glory.

Pumpkin Carving Crazy!

Did you know the Halloween holiday has not always been about dressing up and carving pumpkins, the holiday is actually based on an ancient Greek Celtic holiday know as Samhain which means summers end.

Pumpkin carving has become a well known symbol of Halloween on the 31st of October, with many people showing their carving skills by making intricate patterns on their pumpkins, as well as scary faces and shapes.

Here's a few AMAZING carved pumpkins... watch out for our Ellie Ellie pumpkin carving competition coming soon!

Have you carved your pumpkin this year?

For your Autumn Home!

Autumn is a great time to make some changes in your home, putting the cosy blankets back on the sofa and thinking about what you could add for a new season. Upcycling old pieces of furniture is an interesting way to add something new to your home, an old chest of drawers could be transformed into a new TV unit, or an old suitcase could become a bedside table, the possibilities are endless.

This table is made from a piece of tree trunk to create this unique table, perfect for Autumn.

This shelf unit has been made from old crates that would have otherwise been thrown away. If this one in particular is too big, you could create all sorts of sized shelves with the number of crates you have. Alternatively you could create one shelf from just one crate to add some rustic charm to your home this Autumn.

These coffee tables have been made from scrap pieces of wood, cleaned up and made into the tables they look as good as new. Make all kinds of different sized tables for a very Autumnal feel.

If you have a chest of drawers or drawer unit you are thinking of throwing away, think twice. These flower planters are made from old drawers, and could be painted any colour to go with the exterior of your home. If you have bigger draws indoor shelving could also be a great upcycling project!

Let's Get in the Garden this Month!

Getting out in the Garden and planting new plants and vegetables is a great way to spend the day this summer, providing the weather holds out.

It’s really easy to grow your own vegetables and herbs, or if you’re after something more colourful, hanging baskets are a great way to inject colour into your garden or onto your patio.

Many vegetables require the right weather and humidity to grow well, so it is best to plant certain seeds in particular months, to make sure you get the best result.

It's best to plant these vegetables in August: spring cabbages, cauliflowers, autumn and winter lettuces, onions, radishes, shallots, winter spinach and turnips.

Here are some useful hints and tips for gardening this August:
