Classic Car Boot Sale!

Much loved by the British, car boot sales are a great way to buy and sell some goodies! But how about the idea of the finest vintage fashion, homeware traders operating from the boot of their lovely classic vehicles?

That's right, the Classic Car Boot Sale is back in London! After huge success over the past couple of years, this weekend it's setting up at Lewis Cubbit Square in Kings Cross, where the collection of vintage cars, walkabout entertainment and selection of yummy food on offer is expected to be its most impressive yet! Tomorrow and Sunday. over 100 exhibitors are expected to park up their classic cars.

Expect to hear a fabulous selection of vinyl-only music, played on an open-air routemaster!
From Classic car enthusiasts to those with an eye for retro furnishings and fashion, or anyone who just enjoys a fantastic, friendly atmosphere to have a browse around, there's something for everyone!

Trends: Have a striking summer!

We've all most likely started to make the transition in our wardrobes to a little more suitable for Summer. The jumpers & knits are put away to make way for short sleeved tops and floral dresses! But what styles, colours and shapes dominated London Fashion Week for Spring 2015? We've put together an easy guide to being bang on trend this season:

Stripes: Either horizontal, vertical or completely mismatched, this year you couldn't turn your head without being met with stripy garments or accessories. From a nautical feel at Preen to a more sleek & sporty look at Topshop Unique. And even Jonathan Saunders added a subtle nod to the stripe combined with print and contrasting textures.

Flats: If you don't fancy walking around in towering heels this summer, you're in luck. Flats were a big hit with designers far and wide, showing us that they can be dressed up or down for every occasion. Gothic-inspired with fur trim, colour blocked sandals and laced up pumps - the shoe game is extra strong this season, you'll be spoilt for choice!

Vibrance: The happiest of summer wardobes are those with a pop of colour! London Fashion week favorite Matthew Williamson included busy tropical prints on both dresses and top and bottom combos, while Roksanda went for asymmetrical, abstract style blocked pinks and blues. And who can't love Burberry's passionate watercolour-inspired prints with a touche of tulle?

The best of British designers offer us all we could ever want for this Spring and Summer. There's surely no print, size, shape or length missing from the diverse and inspiring collections - so whatever you choose to take from it, you'll undoubtedly leave a mark!

Join the Fashion Revolution!

The 24th of April 2013 was a normal day for high street shops and fashion stores throughout the world, until a factory in Dhaka Bangladesh collapsed. Killing 1133 people and injuring many many more, this was a catastrophe for fashion supply chains around the world. This was because the factory that collapsed was the workplace of thousands of garment workers, making clothes for many of the shops we buy from every day. 

This year, the 24th of April marked a day full of force from many, trying to change the way people see their clothes. Fashion Revolution Day marked a year after the disaster and campaigned for people to ask stores and brands where their clothes were made and become curious about their clothes. 

The team at Ellie Ellie got involved in Fashion Revolution Day by turning our clothes #insideout, and asking questions about where our clothes were made and in what conditions! 

The power of social media and Twitter in particular saw many people tweeting the brands they were wearing to ask where their clothes came from, prompting response and recognition from many brands whose clothes were made in Dhaka Bangladesh! 

We also got behind a petition to change the labeling of clothing, to show the working conditions of the people who make the clothes, this would be such a big step forward in changing the affects our fashion culture has on many throughout the world. Summer is in full swing and unlike our normal blighty summers, we have rather enjoyed the sun shining regularly throughout July and August. We are taking inspiration from this weather with a relaxed and summery outfit.

Floral print has been everywhere this summer and we are in love with everything floral. The pink, yellow, blue and green used in this Bibico garden dress are great for the summer, with a great fit on top and floaty skirt. Crazy Customising!

Here is a little crazy customisation we’ve stumbled upon this week. We aren’t sure about these customised Lego shoes here at Ellie Ellie HQ, love or hate?

If these Lego shoes don’t quite take your fancy why not try and customise an old pair of shoes you were going to chuck out and give them a new lease of life.... go on!!

Here are a handful of ideas inspired by Ellie Ellie’s favourite things… Have a go using scrap comics, maps or sheet music with Papier Mache, or you could try it with your favourite wrapping paper or old stamps.

For a fun, personalised look you could use locations that are special to you, and we love the idea of personalised insoles for your wedding shoe, a great way to have your memories with you on the day...

Another favourite of ours at Ellie Ellie is these stamp pumps, we think this is a lovely way to reuse stamps and create an individual look.

This week we've inspired by eco-concious fashion. Toms is a brand that Ellie Ellie adore. For every pair that they sell, they give a person in need a pair too. Thier 'One for One' campaign is incredibly inspiring for the fashion industry and we hope that more brands follow suit. They donate shoes to over 80 countries who really need our help. Elephant Branded are another brand that is really moving mountains. They offer bags and accessories ethically handmade in Cambodia from recycled cement bags- for ever bag they sell they donate a school kit to children in Africa or Asia. Ellie Ellie's upcycled music sheet studs are a great little accessory for this outfit too- we handmade each pair saving tons of old music books hitting landfills.
