Liberty Print: inspiration

Since the world renowned Liberty of London store bought its first printing mill over 100 years ago, their creations have become some of the most iconic and recognisable. The stunning floral designs have inspired furniture, interiors and fashion..and now they've made their way to us at Ellie Ellie!

From Betsy to Emilia's Flowers, we've been influenced by the beautiful designs, and are thrilled with our new Personalised Map Liberty Wrap Bracelet collection!

These bracelets make a beautiful, heartfelt gift, and as they come with a 1m long ribbon you can simply wrap around your wrist and tie - one size fits all! Handmade here at Ellie Ellie HQ, using original vintage maps, your chosen location will look lovely against any of the six charming Liberty print designs you decide to go with!

Every week we post an inspirational quote on our Instagram and Facebook, we absolutely love an inspirational quote. It makes you step back and think about all the good things in your life, rather than dwelling on something that may have gone wrong the day before. At Ellie Ellie we have these inspirational quotes up in the office, to motivate the team and promote positivity! Here are some of our favourites so far...

Accidents and Mistakes - Make them!

We are big fans of Keri Smith at Ellie Ellie and you may know about our postcard challenge, whereby we sent our little postcard on an adventure to different friends to see how far he could travel and how many people we could get to comment on him (we are chasing his location now and will update you soon).

Keri Smith is absolutely brilliant, and is such a creative inspiration. Her books, including Wreck this Journal and Mess are brilliant in unleashing your creativeness and imagination!

We are currently completing her book 'Mess', The Manual of Accidents and Mistakes, which challenges something you have been taught all your life, that making mistakes and a mess is a bad thing. Which it certainly is not!

In this book are a series of exercises designed to throw you into a place you have little or no control over and to get you exploring a variety of different materials.

For a perfectionist, this book is really stepping out of your comfort zone, one exercise is asking you to cover a page in honey or glue, drop something from a height and see where it lands as well as a number of other exercises that promote fun and creativity you may not think you had.

The next exercise for us is this.....

We will let you know how we get on with the book, i'm sure it will be a complete mess once we have finished all the exercises but that is what is challenging in the book, stepping out of your comfort zone! Have a look at Keri Smith's other books which include a world of unknown creativity!

Recycled Seating!!

There are so many ways to recycle and up-cycle products to give them a new life and we love the idea of up-cycling old bits and bobs to make crazy and functional seating!
The possibilities are endless to what you can do and we have found some fun ideas to add something unusual to your home.

We don’t know how much wine you would have to drink to make this chair out of old and up-cycled wine corks, but we bet they had a jolly old time in the process!  It would definitely make a focal point in any room!

With so many cars going to the scrap heap this is a genius way of making use of the thousands of seat belts that are thrown away every day. It would make a great outdoor bench or seating for the kitchen!

What do you think?

Here are some other great ideas for recycled and up-cycled seating, we love the reuse of the bath for a cosy sofa seat and the boat will make a statement in any room!

Have you got any recycled chair ideas?

Ellie Ellie Wears - Day to Night Outfit

London Fashion Week is kicking off today and Ellie Ellie is honouring the huge fashion event in the capital this week with an outfit that can easily be transformed from a day to evening look.

A simple cream long sleeved blouse can go with any outfit, whether day time or evening and teaming it with these monochrome trousers from People Tree makes a great statement and insures the trousers stand out! Simple loafers such as these Rebel Vegan Tassel Loafers will work really well in the day time, and you can easily add a heel to transform this outfit for an evening event!

Finish off the look with our Ellie Ellie Artist Pencil Silver Stud Earrings for a pop of colour and an unusual touch!

Scrabble Cookies!!

We all love baking here at Ellie Ellie and there is nothing better than a homemade treat in the office. When we came across these scrabble cookies we were so excited to try them out and see if we could make them look as good as the picture (never happens). Our love of Vintage Letter Tiles, used in our cufflinks and pendants made these cookies look even more tasty!

Here is a great recipe and step by step guide of how to make them! Scrabble cookies

Keep your eyes peeled for Ellie Ellie's attempt at Letter Tile Cookies, fingers crossed!! We hope you enjoy trying out this recipe.

Crazy Customising!

Here is a little crazy customisation we’ve stumbled upon this week. We aren’t sure about these customised Lego shoes here at Ellie Ellie HQ, love or hate?

If these Lego shoes don’t quite take your fancy why not try and customise an old pair of shoes you were going to chuck out and give them a new lease of life.... go on!!

Here are a handful of ideas inspired by Ellie Ellie’s favourite things… Have a go using scrap comics, maps or sheet music with Papier Mache, or you could try it with your favourite wrapping paper or old stamps.

For a fun, personalised look you could use locations that are special to you, and we love the idea of personalised insoles for your wedding shoe, a great way to have your memories with you on the day...

Another favourite of ours at Ellie Ellie is these stamp pumps, we think this is a lovely way to reuse stamps and create an individual look.

Not forgetting our love of old vintage comics, personalising your old pumps and heels with comic print is a fabulous idea, use your favourite comic book characters and stories to make your shoes tell a story.
