Crossing the teas project - Volunteer and visit!

It’s no secret that the British love a good cup of tea, but who ever though it was a fact worth exploring to the extent of an art project? From this month until June, ART;sync; a network of creative professionals, are building a collection of memories based purely on the concept of drinking tea.

Funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund, ART;sync have partnered up with several Brighton-based associations to bring us a fascinating study of the tradition that so many of us simply see as an every day part of life! From a cuppa and cake on an afternoon with friends to the celebrations during Iranian New Year, the project involves nine groups of people with varied cultures and backgrounds hosting their very own tea party. The stories captured will then be on display in Jubilee Library from 22nd June until 16th July 2015.  It's also a chance to see some beautiful and historical crockery from around the world, as well as the stories behind them!

Sound interesting? Good news! The organisation, whose vision is to "mainstream cultural diversity in the arts", is accepting volunteers to get involved right now!. They are on the lookout for Memory Collectors, Community Heritage Facilitators, and Photographic Assistants. So if you're handy with a camera, fancy gathering stories or just looking to find out more about the whole idea, head over to ART:sync to find out more!

Spring Home!

We launched our new reclaimed wood frames last week, our new frames are made from raw pieces of reclaimed wood, that have been made from old schools, barns and houses. All the frames have minor imperfections that all add to the rustic charm of these frames. What photo would you put in the frame?

We have our patchwork photo frame, which holds a 5 x 7" photo

Our blue photo frame holds a 8 x 10" print

Our 5 photo frame is perfect for a focal point in a room, holding 5 photos that all tell a story

If you are looking for a statement mirror, you have found it with our patchwork wood mirror! A great size and absolutely beautiful!

Fun Photo Challenge

At Ellie Ellie HQ we love capturing important and funny moments with the camera. We have a brilliant instant camera which means we can make memories and look back at what we've been doing.

Despite every phone now having a camera, moments can still get lost or you can end up taking photos of the same thing all the time.

We have found a great photo challenge for Instagram and photography lovers which many people have created, which gives you a challenge to take a photo everyday of something different. There are so many different ways to do this and you can find one for every month of the year! Think of all the moments you could capture that would have been forgotten about.

Here some we've found for February, with different things to capture every day!

Have a go this February and you'll be able to look back at the unusual and interesting things you took pictures of! It's a great idea to do for the month of your birthday, or a special event, which means you can get a different perspective of that month. You could have a go with a friend and see how different your photos are and print out your photos to make a scrap book!

Have fun!

Christmas Cupcakes!

There is nothing better than getting creative in the kitchen at Christmas and there are loads of ways to cook up a storm with the family this festive season. A great way to involve the kids is to make some Christmas cupcakes. They can decorate the cupcakes how they like, using Christmas coloured icing and Christmas cake toppers. Ellie Ellie’s Vintage Christmas Cake Toppers are perfect for this.

You can use your normal cupcake recipe and decorate with lovely ideas!
Here are just a few ideas to give you some inspiration!

The Museum of Brands - A Must Visit!

Ellie Ellie has stumbled upon a gem of an attraction in the Capital that is definitely one to be enjoyed and put on the to do list!

Located near the world-famous Portobello Road Market is the Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising, a treasure trove of retro designs and memories, two of Ellie Ellie's favourite things!

Walking through galleries full with oddities and wonders, every decade is documented at every turn and you can see brands from the 1890s, such as Rimmel or Mars Bars, Rolos and KitKats from the 1930s. Items displayed in this museum are bound to get you thinking and imagining how people lived and shopped back in the day!

The museum moved to London in 2005 after previously being situated in Gloucester and continues to attract visitors and expand year on year!

 Opening times are:
Tuesday - Saturday: 10am-6pm
Sunday: 11am-5pm
Monday: Closed (except bank holidays)

The Perfect Pimms

We all love a chilled, fruity glass of Pimms on a lovely hot day in the British summertime, so we thought a ‘Post about Pimms’ was a must at Ellie Ellie HQ, especially as we have been enjoying lovely weather recently.

This is a great guide to ‘The Perfect Pimms’ and we really love the way they guide you to cut the fruit… Pimms Perfection we say!!

Each sip of Pimms is savoured in the British summertime and it’s a lovely way to create summer memories with friends and family. The new ‘Blackberry & Elderflower’ Pimms flavour is another summer sizzler with a fresh and floral taste.

There are lots of interesting and yummy recipes around using Pimms as the main ingredient and we couldn’t be more excited at the prospect of tucking into a Pimms cupcake or sorbet. Enjoy this Pimms Sorbet with all the delicious ingredients of our beloved summertime drink…

Take a look at a recipe for scrumptious Pimms Sorbet here... Pimms Sorbet

Pimms winter means we can now enjoy the taste of cinnamon and caramel on the cold days too, lovely!
