Family Fun Month - Fruit animals!

For the last few days of the school holidays and bank holiday weekend, we thought you might need an idea for how to keep the kids (and you!) occupied. So for our last Family Fun Month post, we've found a fun-filled creative way to encourage healthy eating!

So how you do you make fruit & vegetables more exciting? Easy - make animals and creatures with them first! From banana caterpillars, and apple turtles, there's combinations you never would've known existed.
The recipe is simple:-

- A varied selection of fruit & veg
- Imagination!

It's a fantastic way for children to stretch their imaginations, and make ears and noses out of healthy foods - you can even encourage a bit of healthy competition - who can make the scariest bear or a colourful fish? Maybe the winner gets to eat it all!

We'd love to see some of your fruit creations!

Ellie Ellie Wears - Let's Hit The Beach

In the midst of the summer holidays, we're in the mood for a beachwear special this week! As always, we love to add a little retro inspiration, and this Chic Swimsuit in fifties-style polka dot print really does the trick! The seasons key kimono with subtle lace detailing will look great over the swimsuit, and we spotted this lovely hand fan from Monsoon to add a pop of colour and keep you nice and cool on the beach!

What about carrying your sun cream and towels around? A roomy beach bag is ideal for the job, with knotted rope handles for a real nautical effect! And when you're away from the water, a Reach For The Stars Mixed Metal Necklace will give you a shimmering glow! A winning coastal look for your holidays.

Family Fun Month - Museum of Childhood

August is known as Family Fun Month, so lets celebrate it! We'll supply some ideas of things to do that the whole family can get involved in, so no-one gets left behind or bored during the summer!

At the Museum of Childhood in London, there's endless drop-in activities, arts and crafts and tours every day of the week, but they're also holding Fun Fridays, where on each Friday during the holidays there are workshops, story-telling sessions for all ages, the opportunity to play some traditional board games and a range of toys for the little ones.

So why not spend the day at the museum for some quality family time - the fun will never stop!

What fun activities are you going to be getting up to this month?

Keep the kids entertained on long car journeys!

If you are heading for a British summer holiday in the next few weeks we all know that the dreaded car journey is upon us and the kids have to be entertained. Whether you are headed to Cornwall, Wales, the Lake District or camping in Hampshire there is bound to be a long car journey to conquer first. We've come up with some simple games to keep the kids entertained so you can all enjoy some family fun this summer.

Our hangman and noughts and crosses chalkboard games are perfect for long car journeys, they are a great size to fit into a backpack or in the back of the car, and can easily be played amongst the little ones on the back seat. You could hand our treats for the winner too!

Another great game to play is the good old fashioned eye spy, which means you can get the whole car involved!

The yellow car game is always a fun game and means the kids will be concentrating on spotting the cars. Simply shout 'yellow car' when you spot a yellow car and you get a point, the person with the most points at the end wins.

A great idea is road trip or car bingo, simply print out a number of different bingo cards and everybody has to get a full card as they spot different things. Here are some great examples:

You can even get the kids to colour in this one before you start your journey!

Britain's Top 5 Beaches To Visit!

We are lucky enough to have our studio just opposite the seafront- we are so proud of our Brighton heritage and it's this theme that runs through the Ellie Ellie brand!

Summer holidays are upon us and there is nothing better on a sunny afternoon than a beach visit! You don't have to go abroad to see a beautiful coastline, there are lots of hidden beaches around our humble island that pack a punch! Whether you're after fairground attractions or that soft sand between your toes - the UK has a lot of offer!

One of the best beaches in the country is undoubtedly Bournemouth.7 miles of luxurious golden sand, it's one of the best seaside cities in the UK. It's won awards for it's cleanliness and on a clear day you can see straight out to the Isle of Wight. With plans to build Europe's first ever artificial surf reef it's popularity is set to sky rocket!

Secondly we have a local beach for us the West Witterings, near Chichester. Gorgeous sand and beautiful water, which is great for swimming and water sports! You can even camp here in the summer, with friends and family and of course a BBQ!

Abereiddi Blue Lagoon isn't technically a beach, but it's still a fabulous seaside destination to visit this summer! This beautiful lagoon is found in Pembrokeshire and is an old quarry with a tidal channel to the sea. Surrounded by cliffs it's a wonderfully romantic spot, with it's seclusion and turquoise blue waters.

Standing in Northumberland, Holy Island is one of the spookiest and magical beaches we have to hand. Cut off from the main land twice a day by the tide, it's a hot bed for birdwatchers on the hunt for rarities that take refuge within this island's grounds. It has it's own castle and miles of deserted beach.

Holkham in Norfolk is another secret gem, surrounded by a beautifully scented pine forest. Whether you fancy a stroll or a bike ride you can enjoy endless rolling dunes and creamy sands. Those 'Shakespeare in Love' fans may remember the final scene with Gwyneth Paltrow..that was filmed here!
