The Perfect Pimms

We all love a chilled, fruity glass of Pimms on a lovely hot day in the British summertime, so we thought a ‘Post about Pimms’ was a must at Ellie Ellie HQ, especially as we have been enjoying lovely weather recently.

This is a great guide to ‘The Perfect Pimms’ and we really love the way they guide you to cut the fruit… Pimms Perfection we say!!

Each sip of Pimms is savoured in the British summertime and it’s a lovely way to create summer memories with friends and family. The new ‘Blackberry & Elderflower’ Pimms flavour is another summer sizzler with a fresh and floral taste.

There are lots of interesting and yummy recipes around using Pimms as the main ingredient and we couldn’t be more excited at the prospect of tucking into a Pimms cupcake or sorbet. Enjoy this Pimms Sorbet with all the delicious ingredients of our beloved summertime drink…

Take a look at a recipe for scrumptious Pimms Sorbet here... Pimms Sorbet

Pimms winter means we can now enjoy the taste of cinnamon and caramel on the cold days too, lovely!

Ellie Ellie Wears - Summer Breeze

Summer is in full swing and unlike our normal blighty summers, we have rather enjoyed the sun shining regularly throughout July and August. We are taking inspiration from this weather with a relaxed and summery outfit.

Floral print has been everywhere this summer and we are in love with everything floral. The pink, yellow, blue and green used in this Bibico garden dress are great for the summer, with a great fit on top and floaty skirt. Team this dress with our Ellie Ellie Lucky Sixpence date coin pendant necklace for a great vintage look, with a customised date of significance on the sixpence for a personal touch.

Gandys flip flops are a great colourful addition to this outfit, and the brand, set up by two brothers who survived the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami are working incredibly hard to help children less fortunate than themselves in developing countries. Finish the look with a pastel satchel for the perfect summer day!

Crazy Customising!

Here is a little crazy customisation we’ve stumbled upon this week. We aren’t sure about these customised Lego shoes here at Ellie Ellie HQ, love or hate?

If these Lego shoes don’t quite take your fancy why not try and customise an old pair of shoes you were going to chuck out and give them a new lease of life.... go on!!

Here are a handful of ideas inspired by Ellie Ellie’s favourite things… Have a go using scrap comics, maps or sheet music with Papier Mache, or you could try it with your favourite wrapping paper or old stamps.

For a fun, personalised look you could use locations that are special to you, and we love the idea of personalised insoles for your wedding shoe, a great way to have your memories with you on the day...

Another favourite of ours at Ellie Ellie is these stamp pumps, we think this is a lovely way to reuse stamps and create an individual look.

Not forgetting our love of old vintage comics, personalising your old pumps and heels with comic print is a fabulous idea, use your favourite comic book characters and stories to make your shoes tell a story.

Ice Age Sussex - What's hiding in the Sussex hills?

Chilled to the Bone is a free event going on in Brighton Museum down in West Sussex- an archaeology hot spot. The event explores the effects of the ice age throughout Earth's history and the development of man kind as we know it, against the demise of the Neanderthals. Humans have only existed when there has been ice at the poles, so how will the disappearence of this ice affect our survival?

The exhibition also exposes the facsinating discoveries that were unearthed during the Victorian 'Great Bone Rush' where the very greatest explorers travelled throughout Europe on the quest for answers to the question of evolution- what they dicovered would rock the boat for creationists.

Chilled to the Bone specifically looks at the environment in Sussex throughout history- with it's rolling hills and cliffs providing an ulitmate hub for archaeological discoveries, with vital artifacts sandwiched wihin the land.

The secrets of Brighton Marina

A little suprising I know, but the Marina holds a pretty big secret. Many of us locals have been in and out that car park more times than we could count, but right at the entrance is a stretch of cliff that dates back to 200,000 years. It isn't just your common or garden cliff, you won't see any crisp white chalk, instead you're met with a rather muddy appearance. This so called mud is actually a result of a land slide which fell into a valley 100 of thousands of years ago, preserving some rather exciting treasure. Hidden amongst it's layers are a weath of fossils and clues to evolution.

The cliffs at Brighton Marina are over 200,000 years old.

Off Brighton beach itself, bones and remains have been found belonging to Mammoths, whales, bison and our ancestors. Who'd of thought?

The exhibition makes for a great afternoon out and a fantasticly interesting visit for families. Packed with information about jaw dropping local discoveries and hidden secrets about our landscape!

If you'd like to know more information about Chilled to the Bone then give this a click. The exhibition runs until early 2014.

Ellie Ellie Wears- Ethical Fashion

This week we've inspired by eco-concious fashion. Toms is a brand that Ellie Ellie adore. For every pair that they sell, they give a person in need a pair too. Thier 'One for One' campaign is incredibly inspiring for the fashion industry and we hope that more brands follow suit. They donate shoes to over 80 countries who really need our help. Elephant Branded are another brand that is really moving mountains. They offer bags and accessories ethically handmade in Cambodia from recycled cement bags- for ever bag they sell they donate a school kit to children in Africa or Asia. Ellie Ellie's upcycled music sheet studs are a great little accessory for this outfit too- we handmade each pair saving tons of old music books hitting landfills.
