Trends: Have a striking summer!

We've all most likely started to make the transition in our wardrobes to a little more suitable for Summer. The jumpers & knits are put away to make way for short sleeved tops and floral dresses! But what styles, colours and shapes dominated London Fashion Week for Spring 2015? We've put together an easy guide to being bang on trend this season:

Stripes: Either horizontal, vertical or completely mismatched, this year you couldn't turn your head without being met with stripy garments or accessories. From a nautical feel at Preen to a more sleek & sporty look at Topshop Unique. And even Jonathan Saunders added a subtle nod to the stripe combined with print and contrasting textures.

Flats: If you don't fancy walking around in towering heels this summer, you're in luck. Flats were a big hit with designers far and wide, showing us that they can be dressed up or down for every occasion. Gothic-inspired with fur trim, colour blocked sandals and laced up pumps - the shoe game is extra strong this season, you'll be spoilt for choice!

Vibrance: The happiest of summer wardobes are those with a pop of colour! London Fashion week favorite Matthew Williamson included busy tropical prints on both dresses and top and bottom combos, while Roksanda went for asymmetrical, abstract style blocked pinks and blues. And who can't love Burberry's passionate watercolour-inspired prints with a touche of tulle?

The best of British designers offer us all we could ever want for this Spring and Summer. There's surely no print, size, shape or length missing from the diverse and inspiring collections - so whatever you choose to take from it, you'll undoubtedly leave a mark!

What will you be wearing this season?

Ellie Ellie Wears - Summer Breeze

Summer is in full swing and unlike our normal blighty summers, we have rather enjoyed the sun shining regularly throughout July and August. We are taking inspiration from this weather with a relaxed and summery outfit.

Floral print has been everywhere this summer and we are in love with everything floral. The pink, yellow, blue and green used in this Bibico garden dress are great for the summer, with a great fit on top and floaty skirt. Team this dress with our Ellie Ellie Lucky Sixpence date coin pendant necklace for a great vintage look, with a customised date of significance on the sixpence for a personal touch.

Gandys flip flops are a great colourful addition to this outfit, and the brand, set up by two brothers who survived the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami are working incredibly hard to help children less fortunate than themselves in developing countries. Finish the look with a pastel satchel for the perfect summer day!

Ellie Ellie Wears- Ethical Fashion

This week we've inspired by eco-concious fashion. Toms is a brand that Ellie Ellie adore. For every pair that they sell, they give a person in need a pair too. Thier 'One for One' campaign is incredibly inspiring for the fashion industry and we hope that more brands follow suit. They donate shoes to over 80 countries who really need our help. Elephant Branded are another brand that is really moving mountains. They offer bags and accessories ethically handmade in Cambodia from recycled cement bags- for ever bag they sell they donate a school kit to children in Africa or Asia. Ellie Ellie's upcycled music sheet studs are a great little accessory for this outfit too- we handmade each pair saving tons of old music books hitting landfills.

Biggest Spring Fashion Trends 2013

Spring has finally decided to catch up with the catwalk, and bring a little sunshine to the UK. It may finally be time to put your Autumn/Winter knitwear away and say 'hello' to a Spring 2013.

Tailored shorts are cocooned by massive hype this year, with sharp tailored pieces set to be a must-have for this season's girl about town.Featured in no fewer than 8 shows at LFW, the short/suit combo is everywhere. Topshop are already all over it like bees on honey, bringing out some bold and sharp prints. For women, shorts are all about the length- know what suits your body.

Love Marissa Webb's tweed look. Grey with turquoise works beautifully for a great Spring combo.
Sporty dresses are tipped to be pretty big on the festival scene this year. Sleeveless, with a soft skater feel they are perfect to most figures and is already cropping up on the high street and online fashion stores.

ASOS are already jumping on the sporty dress bandwagon. We love this simply jersey- easy to wear and style.
Cutouts. If you like your abs, they are a great little way to show 'em off. They are adventurous. With conveniently and strategically placed windows they allow you to flash a bit of skin without looking like you belong in a downtown gentleman's club, seriously regretting your lifestyle choice.

BAFTA nominee Jennifer Lawrence shows how it's done in this cutout paneled number.
Monochrome is perhaps the strongest trend this season. Whoever said black and white was dull? Tipped to be bigger than hip hop, bold stripes are back. Vertical is the most flattering, giving an slimming effect for most.

Ellie Ellie Wears

We at Ellie Ellie love all things British, so it's no surprise that we have a soft spot for TOPSHOP's 'Made in Britain' collection. Packed with everything from hats, shoes, accessories, dresses and everything in between it's great to see this high street brand embracing it's heritage!

We've taken 3 items from the collection and slung it with Ellie Ellie's Upcycled Building Brick Studs to compliment the colours in the retro comic tee! Our studs are handmade using old LEGO bricks, which we transform into these cute little studs which are also available in blue, black and white!

This casual-chic outfit is perfect for a mooch around the shops or a coffee date with your girls!

It's increasingly important for us shoppers to support British trade- we've all heard of the doom and gloom soaring around UK bank accounts so it's vital that we shop British and support UK based manufacturing- everything doesn't have to be made in China.

Ellie Ellie Wears

Today is the anniversary of the creation of the Union Jack flag, so we thought we’d go heavy on the patriotism. Fallen quite hard for these adorable brogues from Russell and Bromley, a brand long famed for their incredible designs, quality and style. A pair of R&B are near on impossible to wear out- family heirloom material.
John Zacks ultra cute pinafore dress is a perfect little Springtime move, with a mix of pale denim and a fine off-white polka dot shirt. Red is a strong theme for this outfit so we’ve partnered up Ellie Ellie’sUpcycled Stamp necklace with a trusty Ollie and Nic leather shoulder bag t’boot making it a great opportunity to colour block.
Want to take it further? Cobalt blue nail polish. You know it makes sense.

Ellie Ellie Wears

This week we take a look at Vogue's fave colour of Spring- black. Designers such as Dolce & Gabbana and Stella McCartney have all been designing simple dark outfits for a moody British spring.

I know it's a shock. Who'd of thought black would of been a colour for Spring. LBDs have long been a staple for every women's wardrobe. This little number from Miss Selfridge with it's sweet Peter Pan collar adds a hint of femininity!  Loafers are another essential- these give a bit of balance to the prettiness of the dress, making it a fab outfit for work or a smart/casual dinner date. Ellie Ellie's necklace made from Upcycled Lego is a great bit of nostalgic humor and a great conversation starter with the lads. Check out Ellie Ellie's full up-cycled brick collection here

Map nail art = new fave.

As you well know, we do have a little obsession with maps, so it's unsurprising that we did get overly excited when we spotted these last week

Not only does this idea produce nails that look fab, but they’re super easy to create too!

1. Paint your nails with a white/cream varnish, We suggest MAC’s Faint of Heart Nail Lacquer. It’s virtually un-chippable and it makes for an un-streaked under coat.

2. Soak nails in alcohol for 5 minutes.

3. Press nails to map and hold – why not pick a location that you love? Use different maps to add a variation of colour and scale.

4. Paint with clear varnish immediately after it dries.

Of course it doesn’t stop there with maps, you can be as inventive as you like! How about sticking to the Ellie Ellie collections and decorate your nails using dictionaries or vintage story books? You could even use some old scripts or inspirational quotes too!

We'd love to see some examples of your nail art, send 'em in to press@ellieellie.co.uk!

We're GaGa for Safari!

Milan fashion week just wrapped, and after all this cold weather, it’s no wonder favourite collections were bright, colourful and summery.

Max Mara brought out an incredible safari range, with an oversized, loose silhouette coupled with sleeves rolled up often nearly to the shoulders.

Camels, beiges and the rest of the usual desert colour suspects were cut into blazers, pencil skirts and safari jackets- turned- dresses, with the odd flash of a bright floral print.
The headwear and shoes reflected the collection perfectly, with turbans a prominent accessory- a brave choice if worn outside the runway. (I bought one last summer, and have not worn it since…)

Safari is a card played for every spring, and can seem to be repetitive, but is always a classic look for the warmer months. Most of Max Mara’s show could go straight into stores too, making the collection definitely ‘ready to wear’.

Lady Gaga rocked the Safari look on her recent trip to South Africa and tweeted the photos to her fans.
She followed this by saying she had cut a hole in the top of her safari hat so she could stick her pony-tail out of the top! That’s what we like to hear- a bit of customisation!
The scarf pictured was apparently a gift from the Princess of Monaco!
